Whether you’re an outdoor enthusiast, art aficionado, or a dreamer who likes to roam the beach and hiking trails in quiet wonder, our little bit of paradise offers an amazing variety of experiences.
- For outdoor enthusiasts, there are ample opportunities for rafting, kayaking, windsurfing, whitewater jet boating, fishing, crabbing and clamming, wilderness mountain hiking or biking, horseback riding, whale watching, beachcombing, and more. - For indoor activities, there are art galleries (take a tour of all eight!), museums, and plenty of unique shopping opportunities. Visit a local myrtlewood shop and watch craftsmen create new pieces.
- For fun for the kids, check out the West Coast Game Park, a walkthrough ‘safari’ 7 miles south of Bandon. Or the Prehistoric Gardens with life-size dinosaur models in a rain forest setting, located near Port Orford, 26 miles north of Gold Beach. (36848 Highway 101 South; 541-332-4463)
Here’s a selection of the many things there are to do in and around Gold Beach:
Golf
The southern Oregon coast provides extraordinary golf experiences with breathtaking views and a wide variety of challenges. Here are three celebrated courses located near Gold Beach.
- Cedar Bend Golf Course is a nine-hole course located 10 miles north of Gold Beach and includes a covered driving range and nine-hole putting green.
- Salmon Run Golf & Wilderness Preserve is a championship 18-hole course, located thirty miles south of Gold Beach.
- Bandon Dunes, an hour and a half north of Gold Beach, is one of the premier golf courses of the world.
Fishing
Fishing is a year-round activity here. Sunshine and mild weather from December through March make it a great time to fish. There are five rivers within a five-minute to one-hour drive from Gold Beach. Ocean fishing also offers great fishing opportunities.
Jet Boating
May through October is the time to experience this eye-popping adventure. Trained, licensed pilots navigate the jet boats. Two outfits run the boats up the Wild and Scenic Rogue River.
- Mail Boat Hydro-Jets is a descendant of the original mail boats runs trips in open vessels and in the Rogue Queen, a glass-enclosed excursion boat.
- Jerry’s Rogue Jets operates 8 triple engine jet boats and specializes in all types of group travel. Visit the museum and gift shop year-round.
Redwood Forest
Viewing a redwood forest is an unforgettable experience. Located about 50 miles south of Gold Beach, ancient redwood trees have been preserved and protected in Jedediah State Park (California). Find out more »
Horseback Riding
- If horses are your passion, check out Hawk’s Rest Ranch, a 200-acre ranch situated in the Pistol River Valley, just south of Gold Beach.
- If you own your own horse, box stalls are available for brief stays ($15/night) at the Curry County Fairgrounds in Gold Beach (541-247-4541), but call in advance for availability.

- Wilderness Canyon Adventures may be the only whitewater adventure outfitter on the Chetco River.
